Veatrice Kilgore

Veatrice Sylvia Kilgore, age 97, joined her Heavenly Father on Thursday, July 19, 2018. Veatrice Sylvia Pointer Kilgore, daughter of the late Henry and Luella Pointer, was born on April 22, 1921 in Koenig, Mo. She was married to Eugene Kilgore on December 13, 1942. He preceded her in death on October 11, 2000. Veatrice graduated from New Haven High School and attended Miss Hickey's Business School in St. Louis. Veatrice was a loyal member of the California United Methodist Church as a Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, UMW Group, UMC Food Pantry, Festival of Sharing, and UNICEF. She was active in many community organizations such as 4H and assisted in the organization of the first kindergarten class. She was a homemaker for many years and employed by Ralston Purina and Reeds Department Store after she retired. She loved to cook for her church and family. Veatrice is survived by one sister, Ruth Findlay of New Haven; seven daughters, Carrol (Ron) Hagstrom of Chesterfield, Lola (Tom) Parris of Jefferson City, Dianne (Burl) Baum of Aurora, Valerie (John) Frerking of Higginsville, Nancy (John) Porter of High Point, Joan (Kevin) Hays of California, and Joyce (Kevin) Shepherd of Dixon; one son, David (DeDra) of Linn; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Kilgore of California; 23 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren. Veatrice was preceded in death by one sister, Lufern Pointer; two sons, Gary Kilgore and Jeffrey Kilgore; one infant daughter, Betty Jane Kilgore; as well as one grandson, Patrick Porter; and two great-granddaughters, Ella Porter and Hope Scheulen. Visitation will be held at the California United Methodist Church on Sunday, July 22, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. 3:00 p.m. with the funeral service beginning at 3:00 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Eugene Moeller. Burial will be at the California City Cemetery. Memorials gifts may be donated to the California United Methodist Church in lieu of flowers.
