Nina Jo Brooks

Nina Jo Brooks, age 87, passed away Monday, February 19, 2018, at Tipton Oak Manor in Tipton Mo. Nina was born May 13, 1930, in Prairie Hill, Missouri to Ennis H. and Orpha (Hurt) Hammons. She graduated from Armstrong High School in 1947 receiving the award for perfect attendance, never missing a day of school, and lived most of her life in Armstrong. On December 18, 1948, she married her high school sweetheart, Johnny Dale Brooks and they shared 69 years of devoted marriage. Nina was a bookkeeper and school secretary in Armstrong and Fayette. She was an administrative assistant at Central Methodist University for 20 years. She was very active in church, playing the piano and organ and singing in the choir. She loved bowling, sewing and cooking, but her absolute favorite was supporting her grandchildren in all they did and especially attending their ballgames. She rarely missed a game. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in California, Missouri. Nina is survived by: her husband, John; daughter, Connie (Keith) Walk of California, Mo.; three grandsons, Cory John (Lisa) Walk, Jefferson City, Christian Kyle (Meagan) Walk of Springfield Mo., and Curtis Keith (Rachel) Walk of Boonville, Mo.; six great-grandchildren, Bella, Brooks, Charlee, Brody, Cullen and Candrick Walk; three sisters, Norma Shackles of The Villages, Florida, Jackie (Carl) Jordan of Buckner, Mo. and Nathleen Blair of Bolivar, Mo.; sister-in-law, Mandy Hodgson of Kansas City, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. Nina was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister Nadine Cherrington and four brothers-in-law. Visitation will be held at Windmill Ridge Funeral Service from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 22, with Funeral Services following at 12:00 p.m., with Dr. Jeremy Anderson, Rev. Paul Branstetter and Jack Bowlin officiating. Memorials are suggested to the California First Baptist Church Radio Ministry or Funeral Dinner Fund.
