Lester Z. Peters

Lester Z. Peters, 89, of Jefferson City, passed away on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Villa Marie Nursing Home in Jefferson City. He was born on August 7, 1929 in California, the son of Simeon (Sim) Peters and Hilma (Ziebold) Peters, both of whom preceded him in death. He was a graduate of California High School in 1947. Lester was united in marriage on February 24, 1952 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church to Neva "Kathryn" Woodard, who preceded him in death on July 8, 2003. He served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve from 1952 1960. He lived and farmed on his family farm and worked at International Shoe Company in maintenance until starting his heating and air conditioning trade at Beach Heating and Cooling, Fletcher Mechanical and at Don Peters Refrigeration from which he retired. Lester was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he was the Sunday School Superintendent for many years. He volunteered at the Clarke Senior Center in Jefferson City. He was an accomplished bowler and member of the WestGate Lanes traveling team. He spent many summers on the Osage River fishing and enjoying time with his family. Survivors include one son: Don Peters (Jill) of Mary's Home; two daughters: Diann Wingrath of Jefferson City and Lou Ann Hathcock (Jesse) of Jefferson City; one sister: Shirley Woodson of Jefferson City; five grandchildren: Michael Hathcock, Crystal Riggs (Jon), Stacey Jacobs, Travis Wingrath (Jolene), Nicole Peters; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother-in-law: Woody Woodson. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 17, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial with full Military Honors will be at the California City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Clarke Senior Nutrition Center of Jefferson City. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California.
