William C. "Bill" Wittman, 84, of Jefferson City, passed away on Monday, August 6, 2018, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 13, 1933 in Pilot Grove, the youngest of 10 children to the late Lawrence and Christina (Schuster) Wittman. He was united in marriage on November 14, 1959, to Yvonne Forck in Jefferson City, Missouri. Bill graduated from Mercy Academy High School in Marshall, Missouri. He served our country in the United States Coast Guard from 1952 to 1955. He graduated from the School of Journalism at the University of Missouri - Columbia. Bill held several communications/public relations positions, including: KRCG-TV; St. Benedict's College in Atchison, Kansas; Research Medical Center and Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City; and with the Social Security Administration in Baltimore, Maryland. He retired in 1986 as public relations director for the Social Security Administration, Six-State Philadelphia Region, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Bill enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing, golfing, camping with family, singing in the St. Peters Catholic Church choir, reading, dancing with Yvonne, traveling, and cheering on the Kansas City Royals and MU Tigers. Along with his wife of 58 years, Yvonne, he is survived by his children: Tina Gannon-Webb of Doylestown, Pennsylvania; Kurt (Sherry) Wittman of Fleming Island, Florida; Maria (Jerry) Patton of West Chester, Pennsylvania; Anna (Will) McDonald of East Aurora, New York; Amy Wittman of Columbia, Missouri; and Joe (Becky) Wittman of Columbia; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister: Catherine Berberet of Long Beach, California. Bill was preceded in death by eight siblings. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 10, 2018 at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home with a 3:30 p.m. prayer service. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at St. Peter Catholic Church with Msgr. Donald Lammers officiating. Interment will follow in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Society of St. Vincent de Paul, St. Peter Catholic Church, Mid Missouri Samaritan Center, or American Cancer Society.
