Beverly June Duncan, 88, of Holts Summit, received her wings on Tuesday, October 2, 2017 at home, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on January 19, 1929 in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of William and Helen (Bradley) Blackwell. She was united in marriage in 1947 to Clayton Van Deventer, who preceded her in death. She was then united in marriage on July 16, 1971 in Miami, Oklahoma to Vern E. Duncan, who preceded her in death. She attended Wyandotte County High School and worked as a waitress with Ramada Inn and the Old Brass Rail in Jefferson City. She resided in Jefferson City, prior to moving to Holts Summit. She was an avid volunteer for First Baptist Church and Capital Region Medical Center. She also worked the voting polls and enjoyed making many friendships during her volunteering opportunities. Beverly was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the light in her eyes and the memories they made will forever be cherished and loved. She was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Holts Summit. She is survived by one son: Gale (Marge) Van Deventer of the state of Arizona; two daughters: Cheryl Scott of Holts Summit and Pamela Nitcher of Holts Summit. She was blessed with seven grandchildren: Kristin (Ryan) Tollefson of Arizona, Kyle (Kristen) Van Deventer of Arizona, Wendy (Bob) Jones of St. Peter's, Missouri, Jerry (Cyndi) Hyde of Columbia, Stacey (Gene Bond) Hyde of Holts Summit, Kandi (Jeffrey) Hood of Holts Summit and Jacob Woodling of Holts Summit. She is survived by 13 great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother: John Pat Malone; one sister: Nancy Helen Saunders; one son-in-law: Bob Scott; and one great-great grandchild: Payton Nichols. A Celebration of Life will be held in November for family and friends. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hospice Compassus or American Cancer Society.
