David Leon Stribling

Mr. David Leon Stribling, 77, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2017, at home surrounded by his family. Dave was born June 2, 1940, in LaPlata, Mo., the son of James E. and Arvilla (Crabtree) Stribling. He was married on Jan. 29, 1966, in Kansas City, Kan., to Lee Ann Brown. A 1958 graduate of Fort Madison High School in Ft. Madison, Iowa, Dave starred on the football team, earning a football scholarship to Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa. Following an injury that ended his football career, Dave was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Korea and assigned to the pharmacy, sparking a life-long passion and career. Following his military service, Dave attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Pharmacy, graduating in 1968. Dave was a pharmacist, and later the long-time owner, of Tolson Drug Store in downtown Jefferson City from 1968 until his retirement in 2013. He also owned and operated pharmacies in the local Walmart, Moberly, and Osage Beach for many years. An active member of the community, Dave was a member of the Capital City Christian Church; American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5; Jefferson City Country Club; Jefferson City Downtown Business Association; Missouri Pharmacy Association; and Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce. Dave's focus on work and family was only equaled by the intensity of his love for golf. He was known for his work ethic, sharp wit and his own brand of humor. Dave is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Lee Ann (Brown) Stribling; their three children, Michelle Kay Lupardus (Doug), of Eugene, Mo., David Leon Stribling II, of Gardner, Kan., and Shana Helen Marie Marchio (Sam), of Arlington, Va.; two sisters, Ella Lou Watts, of New Waverly, Texas, and Beverly Scott, of Mesa, Ariz.; his mother-in-law, Helen Hawkins, of Shawnee, Kan.; one sister-in-law, Kay Ellen Miller (Richard), of Shawnee, Kan.; two grandchildren, Jackson David Lupardus and Samuel Isaac Marchio; and nine nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by several loved ones including his parents; one brother, James Edward "Buddy" Stribling Jr.; his father-in-law, Earl Reynolds Brown; his step-father-in-law, James Hawkins; two brothers-in-law, Cotton Watts and Donald Scott; and two nephews. Visitation will be 10:30 a.m.-noon Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017, at the Capital City Christian Church. A memorial service will be conducted directly following the visitation at noon with the Rev. Don Fankhauser officiating. Military honors will be immediately following the memorial service. Private interment will be conducted in Overland Park, Kan., at a later time.
