Kenneth Darwin Steinbeck

Kenneth Darwin Steinbeck, 82, of Owensville, Mo., passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2017. Kenneth was born on February 13, 1935, to the late Oliver and Ethel (Reithmeyer) Steinbeck. He lived in the Mt. Sterling area all of his life. He married Lillian Bunge on June 15, 1957. She survives at the home and to this union were born three children. He served his country with the United States Army, stationed in Korea from 1958-1959. Kenny started as a young farm hand working for Fred Schaeperkoetter and later started his career as a mechanic at Schaeperkoetter Sales and Service in Mt. Sterling and continued working there until April this year. He was a driver for Beaufort Transfer for three years. Kenny was a talented musician. At an early age he started playing music with his dad and brother. Over the years, he played in many bands, including Country Sound and Swinging Diamonds. Those remaining to treasure his memory include his wife of over 60 years, Lillian; children, Susan Steinbeck of Owensville, David Steinbeck and wife Lori of Owensville and Robert Steinbeck and wife Becky of Linn; grandchildren, Sherry Nicks Lococo, Shane Nicks, Ashley Steinbeck McBride, Michael Steinbeck, Lily Steinbeck, Ben Steinbeck, Sarah Steinbeck and Allison Steinbeck; and great-grandchildren, Christian and Zechariah McBride. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Milton, Donald and Richard Steinbeck; son-in-law, Alvie Steinbeck; and granddaughter, Christina Nicks. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 7 from 4-8 p.m. at Gottenstroeter Chapel in Owensville. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, November 8, at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel with Rev. Wayne Nowack officiating. Burial will be in Old Bland Cemetery near Bland. The family requests memorials to Owensville Rural Fire Association and/or Owensville Transit. Arrangements entrusted to Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville.
