Roberta Gleason, 81, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Stonebridge Senior Living in Maryland Heights. The daughter of Robert "Bob" Scobee Jr. and Esther (Bennett) Scobee, she was born August 27, 1935, in Kirksville. On April 10, 1954, in Kirksville, she was united in marriage to Meredith "Pete" Gleason. Roberta graduated from Kirksville High School in 1953. She attended one year at Missouri State Teacher's College, where she was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority. She was a bookkeeper for 40 years. She made her home in Kirksville from 1935 - 1963, Lawson from 1963 - 1969, Russellville from 1969 - 1980, and Poplar Bluff from 1980 - 2017. Roberta attended the McLaughlin Chapel in Kirksville, Russellville United Methodist Church in Russellville, and the Agee Fellowship Church in Poplar Bluff. Roberta was a dedicated volunteer and over the years she was active in Altrusa International (Poplar Bluff), Senior Corps RSVP, Red Hat Society, Boy Scouts of America, Mizzou Extension Clubs Single Mother Mentor, 4-H (Kirksville), Girl Scouts of America (Russellville), Cub Scouts of America (Russellville/Poplar Bluff) and the Russellville PTO (Russellville). In her youth Roberta (and Pete) loved their horses and were part of the Kirksville Trail Riders. Roberta is survived by her children: Shelly Boyer of Jefferson City, Vonnie Strobel and husband Kenny of Russellville, James Gleason and wife Linda of Poplar Bluff, Rob Gleason and wife Barb of Lake St. Louis, and Edie Scott and husband Barry of Poplar Bluff; 11 grandchildren: Jacob Carpenter, Guy Carpenter, Bridget LaRue, Alanna LaRue, Doug Puckett, Trisha (Damon) Rhodes, Lisa (Dirk) Smith, Taylor Jo (Jason) Deutsch, Parker Gleason, Meredith Gleason, and Darby Scott; 19 great-grandchildren: Kimberly, Wesley and Winter Carpenter; Brandon Husted; Chase Dietzel; Scott and Zach Diemler; Antonia, Hannah and Pete Escajeda; Emily Puckett; Hunter and Molly Rhodes; Shelby, Jonathan and Bentlee Strobel; Jackson, Donovan and Grayson Smith; one sister, Laura Easley and husband Perry of Kirksville; and nephews, Mark (Kim) Easley, Matthew (Kim) Easley, Cole (Leann) Gleason. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Pete, on August 2, 2005; one daughter, Kim Carpenter; one grandson, Michael Strobel; and a sister-in-law, Marge Gleason. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Jim Schremp of Agee Fellowship Church officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hills Cemetery in Kirksville. Pallbearers will be Cole Gleason, Mark Easley, Matthew Easley, Barry Scott, Parker Gleason, and Dirk Smith. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
