Opal Marie Gilpin Hayes, age 88, of Russellville, Mo., passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017 in Jefferson City, Mo. She was born May 14, 1928 in Henley, Mo., the daughter of Ernest and Ruth Hoskins Gilpin, both of whom preceded her in death. She attended school in Henley, Mo. Opal was united in marriage June 23, 1973 in Russellville Mo. to Millard J. Hayes, who preceded her in death. She was employed at International Shoe Factory, Tweedle Shoe Factory, McGraw Edison and First Christian Church. Opal loved working in the yard and taking care of her dogs. She enjoyed spending time with her family and challenging them to a game of Dominoes, Uno or Phase 10. She had a giving spirit and was willing to help out family and friends whenever she could. She is survived by four brothers: Junior Gilpin, Jefferson City, William Gilpin, Centertown, Stanley Gilpin, Elston, and Alfred Gilpin, Texas; two sisters: Hazel Schmutzler, Osage Bend, and Dorothy Belt, Centertown; as well as many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, Opal was preceded in death by four sisters: Ida Rose Gilpin, Goldie Gilpin, Eula Gilpin and Beulah Cundiff; and one brother: Timothy Gilpin. Visitation will be Saturday, May 13, 2017 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at Weber Funeral Home in Russellville, with services to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Enloe Cemetery in Russellville. Memorials are suggested to Hospice Compassus in Jefferson City, Mo., American Cancer Society or Jefferson City Animal Shelter.
