Jerry Bruce Steppelman, 82, of Jefferson City, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at his residence. He was born March 6, 1935, in the Steppelman family home on Moreau Drive to Irene Ott Steppelman and Percy Franklin Steppelman. On January 29, 1956, he was united in marriage to Sammy Sue Casey in the Chapel of the First Methodist Church in Jefferson City. Jerry was a graduate of Jefferson City High School and Jefferson City Junior College. He engaged in farming in the early years of his life and then constructed Lake Acres Mobile Home Park in Holts Summit, Mo. and eventually built Winterwood Estates Mobile Home Park in Holts Summit. He loved hunting, shooting and the outdoors. He was a happy man when he was in a duck blind with his hunting buddies. He was known as an excellent marksman, skilled trick shooter and bullet artist. He shot out the images of things that interested him. He shot a picture of Jefferson City High School's "Jasper The Jay Bird", and his good friend Jerry Tamm painted and framed the picture in red and black and Jerry Steppelman presented it to Coach Pete Adkins in 1976 for the Jay Locker Room, where it remains today. Jerry won many trap and skeet trophies, becoming Junior State Champion with a score of 99 clay pigeons out of a possible 100 score of those events several times. He was a charter member of The United Sportsman's Club in Jefferson City. He was President of Winterwood Estates Mobile Home Park. His wife, his two daughters, and his two grandchildren were the center of his life. He is survived by his wife Sue, Jefferson City; his daughters, Lisa Steppelman and Kelly Steppelman Verslues, both of Jefferson City; and his grandchildren, Christopher Steppelman Verslues and Mary Sloan Pleus. He was preceded in death by his brothers, F. L. Steppelman and Jack Steppelman; and his beloved son-in-law, Christopher Alan Verslues. Visitation will be 9:00-11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 13, at First Christian Church in Jefferson City. Funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 13, at First Christian Church with Rev. Beau Underwood officiating. Entombment will be in Riverview Mausoleum. Memorials are suggested to the St. Mary's Auxiliary, the First Christian Church, or to the Friends of the Missouri Governor's Mansion. Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
