Dr. Spencer J. Kemmer, age 48 years, of Overland Park, Kan., a former Jefferson City resident, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Capital Region Medical Center. Spencer was born on December 20, 1968 in Columbia, Mo., son of James and Jackie (Wade) Kemmer. He was married on August 7, 1993 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Roeland Park, Kan., to Maria Paredes. A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Spencer was a 1987 graduate of Linn High School and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree as well as his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry in 1993. Dr. Kemmer, D.D.S served the communities of Jefferson City and Overland Park since 1993. He used his profession to give back to the community by providing free dental care on Fridays (his day off) at the Jefferson City Samaritan Center. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus-Helias Council and served on the St. Peter School Board. Spencer enjoyed physical activities such as playing soccer and basketball, golf, skiing, and running. He enjoyed traveling with friends and family with vacations to Panama City Beach, Colo. and to Disney destinations. He also enjoyed going to concerts, sporting KC games, and was a big Harry Potter fan. Spencer was an outstanding son, brother, husband, and father. He was a loving and devoted husband and father, always putting his family first! His daughters will always treasure the special father-daughter dances at St. Peter School, concerts, and day trips to St. Louis. Survivors include: his wife, Maria Kemmer and daughters, Natalie Kemmer and Grace Kemmer of Overland Park; his parents, James (Linda) Kemmer of Linn and Jackie (Roy) Beal of Jefferson City; his sisters, Julie (Andy) Backues and Kim (Tim) Closser, both of Jefferson City; step-siblings, Jeff Scheperle, Matt (Melinda) Scheperle, Chip (Angela) Beal, and Lori Beal Murphy; several brothers and sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., Saturday, June 3, 2017 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Jefferson City with Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 12:00 p.m. Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
