Harold Joseph Heckman, 88, of Wardsville, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2017, at his home. He was born April 25, 1929, in Wardsville, the son of the late Anton Padua and Anna Therasa (Frank) Heckman. Harold was a United States Army veteran and served in the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage on May 22, 1954, at the Visitation Catholic Church in Vienna, Missouri to Bernice Emma Renkemeyer, who survives at the home. Harold worked as a transport driver for John Groner and then Uregas. He was the owner and operator of HH Auto Sales (aka "Honest Harold") and Heckman Excavating. Harold was always a gracious man who enjoyed helping others. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church where he was elected the first president of the Parish Council, served as a Communion Minister, and was a 28 year member of the Adoration Prayer Hour. He was a member of the Wardsville Lions Club and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. He loved baseball and Helias and Tri-Cap wrestling, especially the St. Louis Cardinals and MU Tigers baseball. Harold loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His hobbies included gardening and farming. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Bernice; three sons, Richard (Mary) Heckman, California, Missouri; Ronald (Brenda) Heckman, Meta, Missouri; and Thomas (Laura) Heckman, Riverside, Missouri; six grandchildren, Brian (Angie) Heckman, Angie (Casey) McFarland, Bill (Holly) Heckman, Miranda (Josh) Curtis, Jacob Heckman, Jessica (Tyler) Hyde; 10 great-grandchildren, Hailey and Ethan Heckman, Matthew and Leo McFarland and their expected baby sister, Hunter Barnhart, Addyson and LilyAnne Heckman, Blaine and Issac Curtis, and Jackson Hyde; six sisters-in-law, Ella Heckman, Alby Heckman, Vi Richardson, Naoma Rehagen, Lu Buehler, Lillian Redel, and Irma (Joe) Richter; and two brothers-in-law, Vic Renkemeyer and Donnie (Velma) Renkemeyer. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Joyce Ann Heckman; two brothers, Raymond Heckman and Cletus Heckman; and four sisters, Rose (Mel) Meyers, Eleanor (Bill) White, Frances (Bud) Robinson, and Louise (Clarence) Kremer. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Monday, July 10, 2017, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Wardsville, with the Rev. I.C. Medina officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Sunday, July 9, 2017, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. Burial with military honors will be in St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery.
