Alma Birdsong Boessen, age 86, of Loose Creek, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City after suffering many years with Parkinson's Disease. Alma was born on January 21, 1931, in Jamestown, a daughter to the late Edward and Lena (Dalsteim) Strein. Alma was a 1951 graduate of Jamestown High School. On April 5, 1953, she was united in marriage to George Henry Birdsong. He preceded her in death in April 13, 1979. On August 8, 1980, she was united in marriage to Robert H. Temple. He preceded her in death. On May 28, 1993, she was united in marriage to James "Jim" Boessen in Loose Creek. He preceded her in death on July 4, 2008. Alma worked as a cosmetologist at Tolson Drug Store and Saffees in Jefferson City. Alma was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and American Legion Post #5 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed quilting, reading, listening to Billy Graham and cooking. Her specialty was German pot roast and homemade bread. Alma is survived by: one son, George Edward Birdsong and his wife Connie of Savannah, Mo.; three grandchildren, Christopher Birdsong, Holly Vinzant and her husband Billy and Melissa Jeffers; 10 great-grandchildren, Austin, Garrett, Leighton, Tristian, Michael, and Mason Birdsong, Bryson and Annalise Jeffers, Landen Birdsong Rogers, and Micah Page; a sister, Ruby Locke and her husband Ed of Jefferson City; a sister-in-law, Delores Strein of California, Mo.; a nephew, Wesley Locke and his wife Amanda and their daughter, Leslie Nicole. In addition to her parents and spouses, Alma was preceded in death by: a grandson, Bradley Birdsong; and a brother, Edward Strein Jr. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2017, at Morton Chapel in Linn. Prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek with Fr. Louis Nelen as the celebrant. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery in Jefferson City. Expressions of sympathy may be made to American Parkinson Disease Association.
