Velma (Buchanan) Arbuckle, age 73, passed peacefully on December 18, 2016, at Cox South Hospital, Springfield, surrounded by family. She was born on April 22, 1943 in Ava, Mo. She was a lifelong resident of the Ozarks, before moving to the Jefferson City area to be closer to her daughter and granddaughters. She lived out her last years at Jordan Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Springfield. She was a graduate of Ava High School and supervised various food establishments and convenient stores throughout the years. In 2006, she retired from cooking at Blair Oaks Elementary in Wardsville, Mo. Velma's love of caring for others lead her to move to where she was needed. She also loved to travel, visiting a multitude of places around the country, thus carried over to her surviving granddaughters. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, cooking, sewing, crocheting and gardening. She is survived by her daughter: Pam (Arbuckle) Strohl and husband Ron; three granddaughters: Britany (Strohl) Acker and husband Eric, Bethany Strohl and Bailey Strohl; a nephew: Ric Buchanan and family; a niece: Robin Buchanan and family; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and one son. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Janaury 23 from 2-6 p.m. at her daughters home, 5101 N. 10th Avenue, Ozark, Mo. In lieu of flowers, a donation to support end of life expenses would be greatly appreciated.
