Joseph Richard Barr

Joseph Richard Barr, 90, of Marshall, Mo., departed this life on Monday, January 2, 2017, in Marshall. Born January 13, 1926, in Shackelford, Joe was the son of the late Thomas J. Barr and Viola Pittman Barr. He attended Elm Grove and Sunny Side grade schools, and was valedictorian of his graduating class at Mercy Academy in Marshall. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Shackelford. He chose Margaret Kopp as his wife and soulmate and they married in 1949. Their devotion and dedication to each other ran deep, and we were blessed to witness such a strong love and commitment. The farm was truly dad's passion. Believing that nowhere on earth is one closer to God than on the farm, dad and mom together instilled a love of the land, of nature, and of God in their children and grandchildren. Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 67 and a half years, Margaret (Kopp) Barr; four daughters: Linda Barr of Tucson, Ariz., Yvonne Barr of Springfield, Mo., Cecilia Barr of Jefferson City, Mo., and Annette Kehner (Ken) of Jefferson City; one son, Joseph Barr (Paula) of rural Marshall; and three grandchildren: Derek Barr (Andrea) of Ft. Morgan, Colo., Isaac Barr, and Greta Barr of rural Marshall. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by two sons, Joseph Barr and Joseph Anthony Barr; one granddaughter, Stephanie Barr; one brother, Thomas Barr; and one sister, Catherine Barr Gleissner. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2017, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with William W. Harlow officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials may be made to Mt. St. Mary's Cemetery in Shackelford, Mo.
