Vernon Forest Williams, age 93 of Tipton, Missouri, passed away early Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at Truman Veteran Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. Vernon, born May 5, 1924, in Florence, Missouri, was one of 13 children of Forest and Lacota Williams. He served his country as a Private 1st Class in the Army during WWII in Europe and earned several ribbons and medals. Vernon and Treva Powell married November 30, 1944, making their life together just short of 73 years long. They spent all those years living and working and raising their two children in Tipton, Missouri. Vernon was an employee of the City of Tipton as Street Commissioner and Water and Sewer Superintendent. After leaving those positions he was self employed as a back hoe operator and a gravel truck driver. He also assisted his daughter and son-in-law on their farm. Vernon enjoyed gardening and landscaping. He also liked fishing but seldom found time for that activity since work always came first. Preceding Vernon F. Williams in death are his parents; brothers Lee, Norman, RV, Harold, Howard and Gerald Williams; sisters Eula Williams, Irene Yonce, Lillian Arnold, Dorothy Henley and Francis Arnold; son-in-law Mikel Ray Harrison. Surviving Vernon are his wife of the home; son, Bobby Wayne Williams of Tipton; daughter, Rita Sue Williams-Harrison of Eldon and one brother, Otto Williams of Newport News, Va. Memorials for Vernon F. Williams are suggested to Edgar Cole American Legion Post #304. Tipton, Missouri. Funeral Services for Vernon F. Williams will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 2, 2017, at Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Tipton, Missouri with visitation starting at 1:00 p.m. preceding the service. Burial will follow the service at the Masonic Cemetery in Tipton. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Meisenheimer Funeral Home, Tipton, Missouri.
