Raymond A. "Sonny" Brondel, 84, of St. Martins, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at Westphalia Hills Nursing Home. He was born on August 23, 1933, in Jefferson City, Missouri, a son of the late Frank and Augusta (Schenewerk) Brondel. He was united in marriage to Margaret "Margie" Mueller on October 15, 1955 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jefferson City. She preceded him in death on October 25, 2016. Sonny grew up in St. Martins and attended Centertown High School. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, worked for Todd Uniform Company for 31 years, retiring in 1997, was a member of St. Martin's Catholic Church, St. Martin's Knights of Columbus 7194, and the American Legion Roscoe Enloe Post 5. Sonny had a great love for baseball. He played for many years and coached his sons and many of the area youth. He loved watching the St. Louis Cardinals and listening to Jack Buck on the radio. Sonny enjoyed being outdoors and took great pride in his yard and gardens. After retirement he and Margie enjoyed traveling, spending winters in Texas and being Camp Host at Riverview Campground at the Lake of the Ozarks. He loved spending time with his family, playing and cheating at the game of Fast Track with the grandkids, and looked forward to Happy Hour. He is survived by his children: Rick Brondel (Teresa), Les Brondel (Terri), Jeff Brondel (Karen), Gina Angerer (Bob), Bruce Brondel (Doris), all of St. Martins, Brad Brondel of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Julie Kempker (Ben) of Henley, and Nikki Monnig, fiancée of Frank of Jefferson City; his grandchildren: Myrilla Markway, Tory Brondel, Taylor Knoll, Alex Brondel, Megan Sommerer, Danielle Marsch, Kaylie Angerer, Kara Carr, Jordyn Brondel, Elizabeth Brondel, Kellen Brondel, Cody Drennan, and Olivia Kempker; his great-grandchildren: Claire, Henry, Hazel, Amelia, Luci, Macy, Nicholas, Aliyah, Parker, Miles, Knox; step- great-grandchild: Jackson; his sisters: Helen Kauffman and Alma Boeckman (Albert), both of Jefferson City; as well as many other family members and friends. Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son:, Frank Brondel on November 7, 2009; siblings: Irma Stegemann, Alice Eggen, Paul Brondel, Tom Brondel and Lorene Boeckman. Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, December 3, 2017, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in St. Martin's, with a Prayer Service at 1:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m., Monday, December 4, 2017, at St. Martin's Catholic Church, with Fr. Louis M. Nelen officiating. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow in the St. Martin's Catholic Cemetery.
