Marvin Neal Jones, 85, of Jefferson City, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at his residence. He was born on November 19, 1931 in Clovis, New Mexico, a son of Marvin H. and Mary Bowman Jones. He was married on October 12, 1958 in Wichita, Kansas to Marian Myrl Phillips, who preceded him in death on July 28, 2000. He was later married on December 14, 2001 in Jefferson City, to Nancy Gaines Sappington, who survives at the home. He received a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Texas Technological College in Lubbock, Texas and an ROTC Commission in the U.S. Army in 1953. Called to active duty, he served in the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers in combat battalion at Fort Hood and with the infamous 808th on Okinawa. He was employed by Westinghouse Electric Corp, in field sales and division managerial positions in Pittsburg, Wichita, St. Louis, Athens, Ga. and Jefferson City, over a 37 year career. He retired in 1990 as National Sales Manager for the Distribution Transformer Division of Westinghouse. He was a member of the choir and a deacon for the First Presbyterian Church of Jefferson City. He is survived by two sons: M. Neal Jones and his wife Jamie and their children Marian and Eldon of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Joel W. Jones and his daughters Alexis and Julian and his wife Felicia and her daughter Chiara of Falls Village, Connecticut; two step-sons: Eric Sappington and his wife Molly and their sons Jack and Johnny of Oceanside, Oregon, and Adam Sappington and his wife Jackie and their sons Atticus and Quinn of Portland, Oregon; and two brother-in-laws: Greg Gaines and his wife Donna of Cameron and Tim Gaines and his wife Cindy of Jefferson City. A memorial service will be held at a later date in which his cremains will be joined with those of his first wife, Marian, in the Columbarium at Riverview Cemetery in Jefferson City.
