Robert Joseph Bishop

Robert Joseph Bishop, 89, of Jefferson City, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at SSM Health Center - St. Mary's. He was born July 22, 1927, in East St. Louis, Ill., the son of the late Frederick and Catherine (James) Bishop. He was united in marriage to Betty Jean Marmion, in June of 1950, who preceded him in death in 2007. Robert attended East St. Louis High School and was a graduate of Southern Illinois University with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. He was employed with McDonnell Douglas Aircraft where he retired. Robert served in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S Portland where he brought serviceman back from WWII. He enjoyed his family and their time spent together; in addition he loved to play golf and spent many hours in his garden. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan. He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Markmueller (Bruce) of St. Louis and Cristine West (Eric) of Jefferson City; one son, Gregory Bishop (Terry) Of St. Louis; five grandchildren, Tiffanie Vargas (Ruban) of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, Bo West (Becky) of Jefferson City, Andrea West of Napa, Calif., Brandon Bishop of St Louis and Callie Bishop of St. Louis; and five great-grandchildren, Andre, Henry, Harrison, Sidney and Sylvanna. Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Joseph with Monsignor Robert Kurwicki officiating. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery.
