Edith E. Thompson

Mrs. Edith E. Thompson, age 87 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Thursday, March 3, 2016, at her home. Edith was born on February 23, 1929 in Jefferson City, Mo., the daughter of Otto and Mary D. (Garrison) Barker. She was married on July 17, 1948 in Jefferson City, Mo. ,to Norman W. ìLeftyî Thompson, who preceded her in death on September 14, 2007. A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, she attended Jefferson City Public Schools. A homemaker for the majority of her life, Edith cherished time with her family and was always there to support them, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Edith was a member of the Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Auxiliary of the United States Postal Service Supervisors. During any free time, she loved gambling, shopping and going dancing. Survivors include: two daughters, Debbie Surface (husband Garry) of Jefferson City, Mo. and Sandi McElvain (husband Dennis) of Jefferson City, Mo.; a special friend, Kelly Meisel of Jefferson City, Mo.; four grandchildren, Jason McElvain of Jefferson City, Mo., Jessy White (Michael) of Jefferson City, Mo., Lisa Etter (companion Will Boessen) of St. Thomas, Mo. and Scott Surface of Jefferson City, Mo.; nine great-grandchildren, Vance, Nic, Adam, Maggie, Keifer, Samatha, Cody, Tyler, and Brianna; and three great-great-grandchildren, Logan, Marley, and Zaíkiah; one sister-in-law, Bernice Barker of Jefferson City, Mo. Edith was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lefty Thompson; two brothers, Clyde Barker and Otto Barker; and three sister, Iola Henson, Pauline Stegeman, and Viola Schenk. A private family service will be conducted at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Alzheimer Disease and Related Disorders Assn.
