Milton C Steinbeck

Mr. Milton C. Steinbeck, age 86 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at his home. Milton was born on February 17, 1930 in Bland, Mo., the son of Oliver F. and Ethel M. (Reithmeyer) Steinbeck. He was married on July 10, 1954 in Owensville, Mo. to Erline Marie Loeb, who preceded him in death on November 21, 2013. A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Milton graduated from Linn High School. After high school, Milton proudly served in the United States Navy from 1948 until he was honorably discharged in 1952. Milton was employed with the United States Postal Service for 29 years retiring in 1990. Previously, he had been employed with Central Dairy for several years. In his spare time, Milton enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals, woodworking and fishing, but most importantly, he cherished spending time with his family. Survivors include one son: Greg Steinbeck (wife Lori) of Jefferson City, Mo.; one daughter: Barbara Lynn Hughes (husband Randall) of Jefferson City, Mo.; one brother: Kenny Steinbeck (wife Lillian) of Owensville, Mo.; five grandchildren, Jamie Verslues (husband Nathan), Rachel Steinbeck, Lindsey Steinbeck, Jared Steinbeck, Jill Herigon (husband Nathan); five great-grandchildren, Laykin Thirwall, Brooks McTeer, Lola Verslues, Ethan Herigon and Reese Herigon. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Erline; one son, Jerry Steinbeck; and one brother, Richard Steinbeck. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 5, 2016. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 5, 2016 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Stephen Buchholz officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be held at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the charity of their choice.
