Donald Wayne Finlay

Donald Wayne Finlay, 84, of Rocky Mount, passed away Monday, February 29, 2016, at his home. He was born on January 21, 1932 in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Dwight and Grace (Bowlin) Finlay, who preceded him in death. He was united in marriage on August 20, 1953 in Eldon, to Margarett A. Cooper, who survives in Eldon. He then married Faye Pace, who preceded him in death in 2003. He was a graduate of School of the Osage. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy from 1952-1956. He owned and operated Finlay and Son Sign Company from 1947-1988. He then worked for Finlay Crane Service as a Crane Operator until his passing. Donald was a member of Northshore Baptist Church. He was a member and Past Commander of the AMVETS Post #108 in Rocky Mount and a member of VFW Post #2442 in Eldon, where he served in the Honor Guard. He enjoyed sharing his creative abilities master crafting in building boats and woodworking. He appreciated a good cold beer and had a lot of fun meeting and making new friends. Most importantly, he loved his family and treasured the memories he made with them. He is survived by three daughters: Betty May (Willie Barker) Scott of Eldon, Veronica Ray (Doug) Gorsuch of Toledo, Ohio, and Anita Fay Myers of Conyers, Georgia; two sons: Harvey Dale (Barb) Finlay of Rocky Mount and Henry Gail Finlay of Eldon; one step-son: Lonnie (Kay) Pace of Macks Creek; 10 grandchildren: James Michael Scott, Tony Scott, Jeffrey Cameron, Christopher Finlay, Thomas Bonzo, Jason Finlay, Bradley Cameron, Gregory Cameron, Michelle Finlay-Patterson and Brandon Finlay; and seven great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by one brother: Will Frank Finlay. Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 4, 2016 at Millard-Rekus Family Funeral Chapel. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Millard-Rekus Family Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bill Boatman officiating. Interment will follow at Cooper Cemetery in Rocky Mount.
