Merry Jean Melloway, 74, of Jefferson City, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2016, at Jefferson City Manor Care Center. She was born on July 21, 1941, in Bunceton, Mo., the daughter of Claude Elmo Buford and Edith Ruth (Krauss) Buford. On August 18, 1963, she was united in marriage to Carl L. Melloway, who preceded her in death. In addition to her role as a wife and mother, Jean worked for the Boonville Daily News. Later in her life she was able to go back to school and fulfill a childhood dream by becoming a Registered Nurse. She worked at Jefferson City Manor and the State Hospital in Fulton. Jean was an avid reader. In earlier years she enjoyed camping and floating on Missouri's many rivers. She also enjoyed quiet rides on her motorcycle enjoying the beautiful countryside. Jean is survived by: one son, Dale Melloway (Gene Sappington) of Jefferson City; two grandchildren, Lucy and Erin Sappington, both of St. Louis; two sisters, Anne Brown of Unionville, Mo. and Juanita (Richard) Knuth of Pensacola, Fla.; two brothers, James (Carolyn) Buford of N.J. and Gary Buford of Jefferson City; one brother-in-law, Ed Jordan of Ashland; a dear friend, Mary Burgess of Fulton; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one sister, Linda Jordan. Friends will be received from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. Friday, June 10, 2016, at Houser-Millard Funeral Home were a Memorial Service will follow at Noon.
