Wayne F. Gerrard, 89, of New Bloomfield, passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2016, at his home. Wayne was born September 19, 1926 in Seymour, Missouri, to Fred and Grace Craun Gerrard, who preceded him in death. He was married to Hazel Akers on July 22, 1947, in Las Vegas, Nevada, and she survives. Wayne joined the United States Navy at the age of 17 and served his country from 1943-47. He was aboard the USS Hornet in the South Pacific and worked as an electrician which is a trade that he followed throughout his life. He was a lifetime member of Jefferson City Chapter 17 Disabled American Veterans and a retired lifelong member of the I.B.E.W. He was an electrician by trade and a machinist by heart who taught himself all parts of the construction trade. He enjoyed reading but will be remembered as a person who loved spending time with his family. Wayne is also survived by children, Marilyn Gerrard-Hartman of Jefferson City, Ron (Sandy) Gerrard of Rochester, New York, Bruce Gerrard of New Bloomfield, and Doug (Swanie) Gerrard of Socorro, New Mexico; six grandchildren, Elias Gerrard, Elyssa Luebbering, Julia Corlman, Michelle Gerrard, Sara Hartman and Caroline Gerrard; along with five great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Marie Johnson, Clara Moan, Doris Redifer and Jo Jones. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 8, 2016 at Debo Funeral Home in Holts Summit, Missouri. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Summit Memorial Park in Holts Summit. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans Chapter 17, 5054 Monticello Road, Jefferson City, Missouri 65109.
