Neoma Balkenbusch

Neoma Carrie Balkenbusch, 90, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, January 24, 2016, at Oak Tree Villa. She was born on January 30, 1925, in Bland, Mo., the daughter of the late William Fred and Minne Neese Laubert. She was united in marriage to Virgil Hunke on September 5, 1943, who preceded her in death. Later she was united in marriage on February 19, 1977, to Carl Balkenbusch, who also preceded her in death. She attended Neese School in rural Gasconade County. Neoma worked as a Clerk, Baker and Cake Decorator at Schulte's IGA for 17 years. She operated a quilting business out of her home for more than 20 years. She was a faithful member of Concord Baptist Church. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, gardening, quilting and also decorated many cakes for special occasions. She is survived by; her two children, Linda Fairfax and her husband Eugene L. of Jefferson City and Delmar Hunke and wife Ruth of Stark City; six grandchildren, Debra Skagg (Randall), Jared Hunke (Suzane), Chad Williams (Kayla), Shane Williams (Lillian), Eugene G. Fairfax (Elodie) and Jason Fairfax (Melinda); and 10 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon Hunke in 1945; two brothers, Alfred and Lorenz Laubert; and one sister, Vera Lee Kueffer. Family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at Houser-Millard Funeral Chapel. Additional visitation will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2016, from 10:00-10:30 a.m., at Concord Baptist Church with funeral services following at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Monte Shinkle officiating. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Concord Baptist Church Building Fund or charity of the donor's choice.
