August Fred "Gus" Struemph, age 81, of Wardsville, passed away Wednesday January 13, 2016, at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Gus was born on December 30, 1934, in Freeburg, a son to the late George and Mary (Bockwinkel) Struemph. Gus attended Holy Family Catholic Grade School in Freeburg and graduated from Fatima High School in 1953. Gus served in the United States Air Force from 1954-1957 and served as aircraft mechanic with his last duty of assignment as 348th Bomron (SAC). On October 3, 1959, he was united in marriage to Margie (Buschjost) Struemph at the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Wardsville. The two enjoyed 56 years of marriage. Gus worked 38 years for the Missouri Highway Patrol as a Terminal Technician. He was manager of the Wardsville Lions club for 26 years. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Wardsville where he served as an usher and prayed every Saturday night for 26 years in the Perpetual Adoration Chapel, 50 Plus Club in Wardsville and St. Martins, American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 2693, Wardsville Lions Club Past President, and with being a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow for dedicated humanitarian services Lions Club International Foundation, Knights of Columbus Council 8399 Wardsville/Osage Bend Council, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus St. Jude Assembly 1567, and Past Faithful Navigator of the Knights of Columbus. Gus also helped cut grass for the St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Gus and Margie were blessed with four sons: Gary Struemph and (wife) Kim, of Jefferson City; Darius Struemph and (friend) Amy Idel-Evans of Jefferson City; Rene Struemph and Marcel Struemph, both deceased. They were also blessed with six grandchildren: Cassie Melloway, Katie Struemph, Kyle Struemph (deceased), Victoria Struemph, Natalie Struemph, and Isabelle Struemph; three step-grandchildren: Paul McKinney and (fiancée) Kelly Johnson, Carolyn McKinney, Lucas Schwaller and (wife) Courtney; four great-grandchildren: Grant Melloway, Gavin Melloway, Grace Melloway, and Margot Schwaller. He is survived by one sister-in-law, Norma Struemph. Gus was also preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline (Hank) Neuner, Martha (Anthony) Rehagen, and two brothers, Vincent Struemph, and Norbert Struemph. Visitation will be 4:30-7 p.m. Friday, January 15, 2016, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2016, at St. Stanislaus Church in Wardsville with the Rev. I.C. Medina as celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow in the Wardsville St. Stanislaus cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Stanislaus Education Fund; Helias Foundation; Knights of Columbus council 8399 Wardsville/Osage Bend Building Fund; or the Wardsville Lions Club.
