Elsie H. Stegeman, 91, of Wardsville, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at Jefferson City Nursing & Rehab. She was born September 21, 1924, in Wardsville, Missouri, a daughter of the late Clem H. and Margaret S. (Schnieders) Stegeman. She attended St. Stanislaus Catholic School in Wardsville. Elsie worked as a shoe packer at Tweedie Shoe Factory from 1943-1965. She then worked as an assembler at McGraw Edison from 1965-1967. Elsie also worked as an machine operator for Chesebrough Ponds from 1967 until her retirement in 1989. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Wardsville, where she was also a member of the Over 50 Club, and was a Rosary Leader. Elsie was also a member of the Legion of Mary and the Ladies Sodality. She enjoyed doing yardwork and taking care of her animals. She also loved spending time with her family and friends. Elsie is survived by a brother-in-law: Norbert Bernskoetter of Wardsville; seven nieces and nephews: Marvin Bernskoetter (Shirley) of Wardsville; Leroy Bernskoetter (Dana) of Jefferson City; Elaine Patek of Hallsville; Daryl Bernskoetter (Cindy) of Springfield; Glenn Stegeman of Wardsville; Janet Ruga (Tom) of Rhineland; Marlene "Missy" Dorge (Rich) of Taos; and numerous great-nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a brother: Everett Stegeman, and a sister: Nadine Bernskoetter. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, January 4, 2016, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, with a Prayer Service to be held at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Wardsville, with Fr. Ignazio C. Medina officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Wardsville.
