Eugene William Myers

Mr. Eugene William "Gene" Myers, age 87, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2016, at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital. Eugene was born on August 4, 1928 in St. Joseph, Missouri, the son of Taylor DeLoss and Mary (Niebuhr) Myers, both deceased. He was married on October 17, 1953 in Rolla, Missouri to Patricia Ruth Jaques, who preceded him in death on March 23, 1992. On September 1, 1993 in Jefferson City, Missouri he married Ramona Luetkemeyer, who preceded him in death on March 27, 2009. Eugene was a 1946 graduate of Lafayette High School in St. Joseph, Missouri. He served in the U.S. Army from July 1946 until October 1947 when he was honorably discharged. He graduated from the University of Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy-Rolla in 1953 with a Civil Engineering Degree. Eugene worked as an engineer for 37 years in various positions for the Missouri Highway and Transportation department. During earlier years he was actively involved as a volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America. He also volunteered his time to the Special Reading/GED Program, teaching others to read. Additionally, Eugene was active in the Meals on Wheels program and Habitat for Humanity projects. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson City and the Masonic Jefferson Lodge, #43 A.F. & A.M. Eugene was a man of principle. Through example he spent his life teaching his family and those around him to live with integrity and honor. Survivors include: two sons, Chris Myers of San Diego, California and Mark Myers (Eileen) of Shillington, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, Kristine Myers of San Diego, California, Steven Myers of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Kevin Myers of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; a sister, Helen Shellhorn of Neosho, Missouri; four step-daughters, Jeanne Schellman (Max) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Marsha Dubbert (Patrick) of Jefferson City, Missouri, Lisa Griffin (Phillip) of Lee's Summit, Missouri and Dee Ann Parkinson (John) of Lenexa, Kansas; six step-grandchildren, Jill Schellman Puffer (Scott) of Kirkwood, Missouri, John Schellman (Annie) of San Francisco, California, Jodi Dubbert Winegar (Darryl) and Jami Dubbert Buffington (Joshua) of Jefferson City, Missouri, Bo Dubbert of Santa Monica, California and Megan Griffin of Lee's Summit, Missouri; and 10 step great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 1, 2016. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 1, 2016 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Robert Erickson and the Reverend Dr. David Henry officiating. Graveside service and interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to River City Habitat for Humanity.
