Charles Columbus Hurst Jr.

Charles Columbus Hurst Jr., 83, of Jefferson City, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2016, at his residence. He was born August 1, 1932, in Centertown, Mo., the son of the late Charles Columbus Hurst Sr. and Regina Steimel Hurst. Charles served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was united in marriage on September 29, 1956, in Rich Fountain, Mo., to Mary Ann Raab who survives. Charles worked for Great Central Lumber Company, Tharpe Lumber Company and Meeks Lumber Company for over 50 years as a salesman. He retired in April of 2006. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, American Legion Roscoe Enloe Post 5 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1003. Charles enjoyed attending horse shows as well as showing horses in his younger years. He loved gardening especially growing tomatoes. And was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Survivors include: his wife, Mary Ann Hurst, Jefferson City; three sons, David (Darlene) Hurst, Jefferson City. Donald (Lisa) Hurst, Jefferson City. Daniel (Jeannie) Hurst, Jefferson City; eight grandchildren, Travis Hurst, Jacob Hurst, Jessica (Erik) Goben, Jason (Michelle) Hurst, Andrew (Heather) Hurst, Sarah (James) Larenson, Zachary Hurst, Whitney Hurst; five great-grandchildren, Cooper Hurst, Ian Larenson, Jack Hurst, Lyla Larenson, Braelyn Otto, with two more expected this year; and three siblings, Virginia (Jack) Burger, Independence, Myrene (Paul) Hoellering, California and Franklin (Eldora) Hurst, Meta. He was preceded in death by: his parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Ella and Wayne Ponder; and a sister-in-law, Catherine Hurst. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Monday, February 8, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Hillary Andebo officiating. Entombment with military honors will be in Resurrection Mausoleum. Visitation will be 1-4 p.m., Sunday February 7, 2016, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a rosary recited at 12:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Conception Parish, 1206 East McCarty Street, Jefferson City, MO 65101, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
