Robert Herman Price, 88, of Centertown, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2016, at Jefferson City Nursing and Rehab. He was born April 23, 1928, in Jefferson City, Missouri, a son of the late Raymond Samuel and Mary (Gerling) Price. On April 20, 1968, Robert was united in marriage in Hammond, Indiana, to Jewel Eloise Mashburn, who survives at their home. Robert was owner/operator of Dunhill Cleaners and Campus Cleaners in Highland, Indiana, and Hammond, Indiana. He previously was a Chicago Police Officer. Robert was a veteran of the United States Navy and served in World War II on the USS Osbourn. He attended Centertown Baptist Church; was Commander of American Legion Post 531 for several years; was Chief Ranger for the Independent Order of Foresters - Court 1107 in Hammond, Indiana; and the Fraternal Order of Police. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading, gardening, traveling, tinkering in his shed, and doing things for other people. Most of all, he loved his family. Along with his wife Jewel, Robert is also survived by five children: Robert Price (Lisa) of Panama City, Florida; Michael Price (Sheila) of Ypsilanti, Michigan; Celine Whitaker (Ken Herkelman) of Centertown; Donna Martin of New Lenox, Illinois; and Vickie Jackson of Evansville, Indiana; one sister: Mary Welbis of Crowne Pointe, Indiana; nine grandchildren: Anne Dutton, Brian Koier, Michael Price, Raymond Price, Amy Martin, Elizabeth Schmidt, Joey Schmidt, Jennifer Schmidt, and Buddy Jackson; and three great-grandchildren. Robert was also preceded in death by a sister: Loretta Libbert, and a grandchild: Mikel Taylor Price. Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Monday, August 22, 2016, at the Centertown Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday, August 22, 2016, at the Centertown Baptist Church, with Rev. Stephen Bickel officiating. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow in the Centertown Cemetery. In Lieu of Flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Alzheimer Association or to Centertown Baptist Church.
