Louis Frederick Markway

Louis Frederick "Louie" Markway, 83, of Wardsville, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 13, 2016, at his residence. He was born September 1, 1932, in Wardsville, Missouri the son of the late Albert Bernard and Marie Elizabeth (Winkelmann) Markway. He attended St. Stanislaus School in Wardsville and was a 1946 graduate of St. Peters High School in Jefferson City. Louie served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On August 28, 1954, he was united in marriage at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jefferson City to Doris Lee Scheuler, who survives at the home. During his working career, Louie operated a gas station quick shop in Wardsville, was a carpenter, owned and operated Markway Excavation, worked with the Missouri Department of Corrections in Maintenance and was employed by Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home. He was an active member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church where he served in many capacities including on the parish council, Cursillo, Marriage Encounter, Pre-Marriage Counseling, Public School Religion, Prison Ministry and cemetery board. Additionally, Louie served on the Blair Oaks RII School Board, was a past founding member of the Wardsville Lions Club and helped start up the local Volunteer Fire Department. In his spare time, Louie used his carpentry and woodworking skills to benefit others in need, including making ramps and other devices used by the disabled, Carmelite Nun's projects and various other parish community needs. He also loved to fish (and tell fish stories), barbeque and make stained glass projects. His daughters often called upon him to fix whatever they needed fixing and build whatever needed building. He never knew a stranger and was never short on words. Survivors include his wife, Doris Markway, Wardsville; five daughters, Christy (Roger) Ostmeyer, Cleveland, Mo.; Deb (Paul) Bisges, Wardsville; Julie (Glen) Reinkemeyer, Wardsville; Lisa (Dennis) Dohogne, St. Johns, Fla.; Susie (Mike) Thessen, Dardenne Prairie, Mo.; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Kay Duckworth, Omaha, Neb. He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons, Anthony Reinkemeyer and Joseph Dohogne; one sister, Dorothea Croff; and five brothers, Maurice, Marcellus, Norbert, Jerome, and Albert Markway. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Monday, August 15, 2016, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, with a preceding prayer service at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 16, 2016, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, with the Rev. I.C. Medina officiating. Entombment will be in St. Stanislaus Mausoleum. Memorials are suggested to St Stanislaus Parish or St Stanislaus Cemetery Committee.
