Carl Lee Monteer, 89, of Versailles, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 9, 2016. He was born on September 26, 1926, as one of four children to the late Marion and Myrtle (Hoskins) Monteer. He was united in marriage on March 29, 1947, to Geri Roark who preceded him in death on March 27, 1998. They were married for almost 51 years. Carl was a man who truly lived a life of service. He retired as a lieutenant of the Jefferson City Police Department after keeping our community safe for 32 years. Carl also served in the United States Army in which he was an active duty member during WWII and the Korean War. His service extended beyond his professional endeavors as well. Carl was a Christian by faith and an active member of his community. Above all, Carl's pride and joy was his family. When he was not out hunting and fishing he could be found spending as much time with them as the day would allow. He is survived by his sons, Carl David Monteer of St. Martins, Rickey (Rhonda) Monteer of Eugene and Danny Lee (Gennifer) Monteer of Jefferson City; grandson they raised, Michael (Juanita) Monteer of Lohman; sister, Lucille Baldwin; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Along with his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Francis "Junior" Monteer and sister, Kizzie Bradshaw. Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 12, 2016, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 12, 2016, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors with Minister Bobby Kelly officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Longview Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Safety Net for Fallen Officers through the Jefferson City Police Department.
