Henry L. (Hank) Vollenweider, age 95, died peacefully in his sleep on Friday April 8, 2016, at Woodview Assisted Living in Fort Wayne, Ind. He was born in Dubuque, Iowa and lived for many years in St. Louis, Mo., where he retired from Lennox Industries, Inc. He graduated from the University of Iowa, and was the last surviving member of its famous 1939 'Ironmen' football team. He served with the US Coast Guard during WWII in the North Atlantic. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan, and volunteered for 15 years at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis. He is survived by a son, Dale Vollenweider Sr. (wife Joy) of Fort Wayne, Ind., and daughter, LuAnn Madsen (husband Phil Wright) of Jefferson City, Mo.; four grandchildren, Dale 'Rob' Vollenweider Jr. of Chicago, Ill. and Kyle Vollenweider of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Nathan Wright and Alyssa Wright, and two great-grandchildren, all of Jefferson City, Mo. He was preceded in death by Ardis, his wife of 55 years; his parents, William and Clara Vollenweider, his brother Robert Vollenweider, and his sister Ruth Vollenweider. He touched many lives with his sweet and generous nature, and especially his unique sense of humor. Although we are happy he is now rejoined with our mother, we will miss his gentle soul here on earth. Arrangements are pending for a celebration of his life in Fort Wayne, followed by a private ceremony in St. Louis. Hank was a long time blood donor. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to American Red Cross Blood Services (text GIVE to 260-624-0749).
