Dan Thomas Massie

Dan Thomas Massie, age 65, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at the Capital Region Medical Center. Dan was born on February 1, 1951, to Gerald and Henrietta Massie. He grew up in Jefferson City and graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1969. After graduation he pursued his life-long career goal of becoming a river boat pilot. Dan began his river career as a deckhand, eventually earning his pilot's license, working on many important rivers. After health problems caused him to leave his river career, Dan started his own Jefferson City handyman business, Dan T.'s Handyman Service. In 1991, a severe auto accident in Jefferson City left Dan with partial paralysis. With great determination and spirit, he had until the last few years been able to live independently in Jefferson City. Dan is survived by his sister, Kathleen Pierce and her husband Bill of St. Louis, Mo.; a niece, Kristin Pierce; a nephew, Justin Pierce and his wife Christy, and their daughter, Kylie. He was preceded in death by his parents. Graveside services and interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 15, 2016, at Riverview Cemetery in Jefferson City, Mo. A visitation will be held from 12:30 until 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 15, 2015, in the Parlor at First Presbyterian Church with a memorial service following in the sanctuary with the Reverend Dr. Robert Erickson and the Reverend Dr. David Henry officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church, 324 Madison Street, Jefferson City, Mo. 65101.
