Alfred August "Bud" Hirschman, 89 of Jefferson City, died Saturday, April 9, 2016, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born October 1, 1926, in Cole County, son of the late Edward and Sadie (Burry) Hirschman. In March 1948, he was united in marriage to Jennie Lou Clatterbuck in Sedalia, she survives at the home. Bud was a 1944 graduate of Jefferson City Public High School and attended one year at the Jefferson City Jr. College. He served his country in the United States Navy during WWII from 1944 to 1952 serving on LCI Mine Sweepers and USS Caution. Bud retired from the United States Postal Service July 1, 1984, after 34 years of service, he then went on to work eighteen sessions for the Missouri Senate as a Doorkeeper. He started his postal career as a mail clerk on the Union Pacific Railroad and was honored in the celebration of the last remaining mail car on the Union Pacific Railroad. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2693, American Legion and the VFW. Bud was active in the Honor Flight program and enjoyed attending many naval reunions. Bud enjoyed going to the boat, was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan, loved sports, and in his earlier years, enjoyed yard work. He truly loved spending time with his family, especially the grandkids. He is survived by his wife Jennie Lou of 68 years and his daughters: Janice Lea (Ed) Meldrum of Jefferson City and Melissa Kay (Brad) Dulle of Jefferson City; grandchildren: Heather (Mitch) Herigon, Dalton Rodriguez, Ben (Jeni) Meldrum, Rob Meldrum, Shay (Chelsie) Dulle, Eastin Dulle, Devin Dulle; great-grandchildren: Hunter Herigon, Zach Herigon, Wyatt Meldrum, Hattie Meldrum, Hudson Meldrum, and Harpor Dulle; and two sisters: Joan Bard of Marcellus, Mich. and Maxine Powell of Columbia and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his two sons: Michael Edward Hirschman and Richard Waller Hirschman and brother: Larry O. Hirschman and sister: Ruby Debo. Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors with Rev. Steve Jones officiating. Entombment will follow at Riverview Cemetery Mausoleum.
