Maxine Farber

Mrs. Maxine Farber, age 101, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Friday, September 18, 2015, at the Jefferson City Manor Care Center. Maxine was born on July 20, 1914, in Mankato, Kansas, a daughter of Robert and Leatha (Lawson) Ripley. She was married on August 16, 1942, in Kansas City, Mo. to Reginald N. Farber, who preceded her in death in 1995. She was a 1931 graduate of Southwest High School in Kansas City, Mo. She received her Associate degree from Kansas City Junior College in 1933, and later graduated with a Bachelor's degree from the University of Kansas in 1936. She was employed as an assistant to the director at the Birth Defects Center at the University of Kansas Medical Center until her retirement in 1976. Before her work with the medical center, Maxine worked as a secretary for Dr. Fred Campbell's office and secretary to the principal at Shawnee Mission East High School in Prairie Village, Kansas. A resident of the Leawood, Kan. and Cuchara, Colorado for the majority of her life, Maxine moved to Jefferson City to be closer to her family in 2010. Maxine was a charter member of the Country Club Congregational Church in Kansas City, Mo. and a member of La Veta Methodist Church in La Veta, Colorado. She cherished time with bible study groups at both of the churches. She was a member of the P.E.O. chapters in both Jefferson City, Mo. and La Veta, Colo.; a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority; and a member of Nitwits Knitting Club. During her free time, Maxine enjoyed reading, cooking, and gardening. She also loved being active outdoors and liked cross-country skiing, tennis and hiking. Maxine had a passion for music and was always singing and listening to jazz musicians. Survivors include: two daughters, Regina L. Jones and her husband Shelby of Jefferson City, Mo. and Marjorie Hicks and her husband Michael of Holt, Mo.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Reginald, and one brother, Buddy Oliphant. A memorial service will be announced at a later time.
