Ann Peters Schreen
Mrs. Ann Peters Schreen, age 83 years, of Jefferson City, Mo.,
passed away Friday, September 11, 2015, at the Adams Street Place.
Ann was born June 20, 1932, at home in Chamois, Mo., the
daughter of Dr. Paul D. and Alverta (Rowe) Souder.
She was married on April 16, 1955, in Chamois,
Mo. to Jordan D. "Dale" Peters, who preceded her
in death on June 11, 1970. On September 2, 1978,
she married Darrell E. Schreen and he preceded
her in death on March 5, 2011.
A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area,
Ann graduated from Chamois High School and
Washington University in St. Louis with a bachelor's
degree in fine arts. She returned to Jefferson City
where she received her certification in art from Lincoln University.
Art was her lifelong love and she enjoyed being an art teacher for
over 25 years. Ann started her teaching career in Russellville for one
year and went on to teach for 26 years in the Jefferson City Public
Schools at Southwest and North Elementary Schools.
She was a member of Central United Church of Christ where she
was active with the Eleventh Circle and attended Little Dixie Church
in New Bloomfield, Mo. She was also a member of the Retired Missouri
State Teachers Assn., the Missouri State Teachers Assn., and
the Auxiliary of the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5.
In her free time, Ann enjoyed spending time with her family,
especially being outdoors with them. With her love of nature, she
cherished time painting Missouri wildflowers. She was also known
for her extreme love of cats.
Survivors include: two sons, Clayton Peters and his wife Brenda
of Brazito, Mo. and Clifford Peters of the state of Georgia; one
daughter, Paula Thompson of Jefferson City, Mo.; one step-daughter,
Cynthia Beck and her husband Mike of Columbia, Mo.; five
grandchildren, Jeremiah Peters and his fiancée Susan Baker, Mandi
Peters, Dani Hainen, Haley Cleveland and her husband Wayne, and
Edwin "Kirk" Thompson; four great-grandchildren, Mason, Evan,
Peanut, and Aihva; one brother, Paul Souder and his wife Kaye of
Tijeras, New Mexico; three nieces, Kate Lancaster, Debbie Phillips,
and Penny Whisler; and her two beloved cats, Lucille and Sissy.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two husbands,
Dale and Darrell.
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00
a.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2015.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September
15, 2015, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Rushan
Sinnaduray officiating. Graveside services and interment will be
held at Riverview Cemetery.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Jefferson
City Public Schools Foundation to help fund art projects in
elementary schools.
