Leonard Raymond Hoelscher

Leonard Raymond Hoelscher, 64, of Osage Bend, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2015, due to injuries sustained while working on the family farm. He was born February 22, 1951, in Jefferson City, a son of the late Leo Joseph and Betty Ann (Toebben) Hoelscher. He was honored to be a graduate of the first graduating Class of 1969 of Blair Oaks High School in Wardsville, Mo. On October 5, 1974, Leonard was united in marriage in St. Elizabeth, Missouri, to Judith Bax, who survives at their home. Leonard worked for Braun Dairy Farm until 1975. He worked for Braun Plastering and Drywall from 1975 until he retired in 2005. Leonard was a veteran of the United States Army Reserves 75th Field Artillery from 1969 until 1975. He was a member of St. Margaret of Antioch Catholic Church in Osage Bend; Laborer Local 662; St. Thomas Knights of Columbus; and was a 4-H Beef Project Leader. Leonard's passion was taking care of the family farm. His favorite chores were cutting wood and hay, but most of all looking after and attending his herd of cows. Leonard was a sports fan particularly for the St. Louis Cardinals, college football and basketball, and the NFL. His favorite teams were the Missouri Tigers, where both his children attended; also Duke and Kansas. Along with his wife, Judy, Leonard is also survived by a daughter: Jennifer Ann Kopec (husband Mike) of Jefferson City; a son: Steven Leo Hoelscher (wife Christy) and one grandchild: Hadlee Hoelscher of Louisville, Ky.; eight siblings: Rose (Bob) Verslues, Bernice (Joe) Bax, Robert (Debby) Hoelscher, Stan (Marga) Hoelscher, Diana (Don) Stegeman, Delbert (Lori) Hoelscher, Lee Hoelscher and friend Joan Kramer, Darlene (Jeff) Buschjost; brother and sisters-in-law: Marcia and Steve Slaughter and Dennis and Ann Bax; 20 nieces and nephews; and twenty-eight great-nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 15, 2015, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friends will also be received from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2015, at St. Margaret of Antioch Catholic Church in Osage Bend, where Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Ignazio C. Medina officiating. Interment and full military honors will follow in the St. Margaret of Antioch Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or to St. Margaret of Antioch Catholic Church.
