Shirley Ann Peneston

Shirley Ann Peneston, 80, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2015, at University Hospital and Clinics in Columbia, Mo. She was born May 1, 1934, in Burlington, Iowa, a daughter of the late Chester and Gladys (Williams) Near. She attended schools in Burlington, Iowa. On May 24, 1952, Shirley was united in marriage in Burlington, Iowa, to William F. Peneston, who preceded her in death on October 21, 2010. Shirley devoted her whole life to loving and caring for her family. She was a beautiful person with a loving soul. She will be greatly missed as she was greatly loved. Shirley was a devoted Mom and Wife. Her main focus was to take care of her family whom she adored. Her first thought was always her family and not herself, even in her last days. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson City, and the American Legion Auxiliary in Kimberling City, Mo., where she was also the designated photographer. Shirley is survived by: five children, Sherry Sadler, Gary Peneston, Kenneth Peneston, Donald Peneston and Sarah Becker, all of Jefferson City; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: a granddaughter, Sarah Christine Peneston on October 17, 1999; and two sisters, Betty Alvis and Bonnie Columbe. Friends will be received from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 2, 2015, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, with Rev. Samuel Powell officiating. Interment will follow in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
