Ruth Elizabeth Aeschbacher

Ruth Elizabeth Aeschbacher, age 100, of Jefferson City, formerly of the Versailles and Laurie area, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2015, at Adams Street Place in Jefferson City. She was born on July 10, 1914, the daughter of Thomas and Alpha Lehman, who preceded her in death. On December 3, 1939, on the family farm near Versailles, she was married to Herbert Aeschbacher, who preceded her in death on April 5, 2000. Ruth was an active member of the Bethel Mennonite Church near Fortuna and for many years graced the altar every Sunday morning with a beautiful bouquet of roses from her rose garden. She was also an active member of the Women's Missionary Society sewing many comforter and quilt tops. She was an avid quilter and also enjoyed gardening. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She lived on the family farm near Versailles until 1978, when she and her husband sold the farm and moved to Laurie to be close to her eldest daughter Myrna and son-in-law Dave Sherman. She is survived by one daughter, Elaine Ernst and her husband Don of California, Missouri; four grandsons, Mark (Melaine) Sherman of Laurie, Kirby (Angel) Ernst of Holts Summit, Missouri, Jay (Lisa) Ernst of New Bloomfield, Missouri and Scott Sherman of Kansas City, Missouri; six great-grandchildren, Madisen Sherman, Connor, Max, Macee, Alisa and Delainey Ernst and several nephews and nieces. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her eldest daughter, Myrna Sherman and son-in-law, Dave Sherman and two brothers, Tilman Lehman and Eldon Lehman. A visitation will be held at the Bethel Mennonite Church near Fortuna on Saturday, April 4, 2015, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. A celebration of Ruth's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., with graveside services and interment to follow in the Bethel Mennonite Church Cemetery.
