Rodney L. Haley

Rodney L. Haley, 62, of Eldon, Missouri, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2015, at University Hospital in Columbia, Mo. Rodney was born to Francis and Frances (Perkins) Haley on August 23, 1952, in Moberly, Mo. He married Paulette Myers on January 19, 1974, in Canton, Missouri. Rodney graduated from Madison High School, and he received a degree in education and business from Culver Stockton College in Canton, Mo. He then received a Master's Degree and Specialists Degree from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo. Rodney was a devoted coach, teacher, athletic director, principal, superintendent and farmer. He taught business and coached at Northeast R-IV in Cairo, Mo. It was there that his girl's basketball team went to The Final Four and took home second place. He then went to Callaway Co. R-III, New Bloomfield, where he served as the athletic director, coach, teacher and later principal. While there, his teams won numerous conference, district and state awards; his baseball teams went to The Final Four 10 times and won six state championships. Rodney received numerous Coach of the Year Awards in baseball and basketball and was elected to the Missouri State High School Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 1997. Rodney became Superintendent of Schools in Canton, Mo. in 1996. He later moved to the Eldon School District where he continued to serve as superintendent until he retired in 2004. He is an avid Cardinal's baseball fan and his favorite player was Stan Musial. His hobbies included playing golf, watching Mizzou athletics, spending time with family and friends, and playing ball with his dog, Stella. Rodney also enjoyed spending time on the farm that he owned with his brother. He was looking forward to being a grandfather for the first time and will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Rodney was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, brother-in-law; three aunts; two uncles; cousin; and mother-in-law. Rodney is survived by his wife, Paulette Haley, Eldon, Mo.; son, Justin Haley (Janelle) of Jefferson City, Mo.; brother, Randall Haley (Paula) of Madison, Mo.; brother-in-law, Jim Myers (Lisa) of Monroe City, Mo.; nephews: Sean Myers of Branson, Mo., Royce Haley of Madison, Mo., and Nick Glydewell of Moberly, Mo.; niece, Diana Glydewell of Paris, Mo.; cousins: Connie Anthony of St. Louis, Mo., Ellen Embree of St Louis, Mo., Brenda Perkins of St. Louis, Mo., and Grant and Andrew Richardet of St. Louis, Mo.; he is also survived by Ted and Nancy McNutt of Russellville, Mo. and other numerous family members. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 9, 2015, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Million Taylor Funeral Homes of Moberly. Funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2015, in the chapel of the funeral home with Pastor David White officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Madison. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Friends of Animals Humane Society.
