Ruth M. Scholle

Mrs. Ruth M. Scholle, age 91 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2015, at Oak Tree Villa surrounded by her family. Ruth was born on November 18, 1923, in Jefferson City, Mo., a daughter of Oscar W. and Eugenia L. (Sayles) Bassmann. She was married on September 27, 1942, in Linn, Mo., to Paul Bruce Lewis Jr., who preceded her in death on December 25, 1970. She was later married to A. Eugene "Gene" Scholle on July 28, 1973 in Jefferson City, Mo., and he also preceded her in death on April 21, 2009. A lifelong resident of Jefferson City, Ruth was a 1941 graduate of Jefferson City High School. Ruth was employed for several years with the Missouri Department of Health and Vital Records. She later went to work with the Missouri Department of Employment Security until her retirement in 1983. A homemaker for the majority of her life, Ruth's main passion in life was always taking care of her family. She was so proud of all her family and they will remember her as a loving person with a gentle soul. She was a lifetime member of Central United Church of Christ and a member of the Eleanor's Circle. She was always proud to be associated with the church especially since her "Great-Grandfather Bassmann" was a founding member of the church. She enjoyed bowling and collecting antiques, dolls, and cookie jars. Her loving family includes: one daughter, Terri Propst (husband John) of Jefferson City, Mo.; one son, Tom Lewis (wife Susan) of Jefferson City, Mo.; four grandchildren, Matt Propst (wife Erin) of Little Rock, Ark., Kurt Propst (wife Lindsay) of Holts Summit, Mo., Lisa Buhr (husband Steve) of Taos, Mo., and Mike Lewis (wife Becca) of Jefferson City, Mo.; six great-grandchildren, Alexis, Alivia, and Eli Propst, Beau and Brock Buhr, and Foster Lewis; her sister, Agnes "Bee" Sullivan (husband John) of Jefferson City, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; her beloved brother, Lewis "Bud" Bassmann; and one sister, Jean Margaret Nester. Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 30, 2015. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 30, 2015 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Stephen Buchholz officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held in the Evangelical section of Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Central United Church of Christ.
