Brenda J. Dorsey, age 65 years, of Tebbetts, Mo., went peacefully to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 17, 2015, at the Capital Region Medical Center surrounded by her family and friends. Brenda was born on February 22, 1949, in Cedar City, Mo., a daughter of Walter "Rip" Bloomer and Madeline (Nichols) Bloomer. Growing up she attended school in Cedar City and Centertown, Mo. She was married on April 23, 1965, to Gary Dale Dorsey at Union Hill Baptist Church in Holts Summit, Mo. She was employed by the Missouri Department of Revenue for over 10 years until ill health forced her retirement in 1993. Brenda was a member of Solid Rock Family Church in Jefferson City, Mo. She was strong in her faith in God and enjoyed fellowship at church functions, especially the Ladies Retreats whenever she could attend. Brenda spent much of her summers in the yard, doing yard work, and being in the sun. She enjoyed canning for family, making ceramics, going fishing and most recently, quilting with her daughter, even as she became homebound. She loved going to ball games for her grandchildren, nieces and nephews and loved to cheer them on. But her most rewarding time was spent with her grandchildren, delivering them to activities, taking them on outings and showering them with love and affection. Survivors include: her husband of 49 years, Gary Dorsey; two daughters, Shelly Nilges (husband Rob) and Lori Bremer (husband Jamie), all of Tebbetts, Mo.; four grandchildren, Justin Nilges (girlfriend Stephanie), Kersten Nilges, Colton Nilges and Brandon Bremer; two sisters, Linda Coots (Jerry) and Connie Hayden (husband Stan), both of Jefferson City, Mo; two brothers, Darrell Nichols (wife Lynda) of Jefferson City, Mo. and Warren Bloomer of Tebbetts, Mo. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews and other family members, including special friends, Bob and Sheila Hayden and their children, Kayla and Garrett. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Charlie Bloomer; one nephew, Bobby Bloomer; and one niece, Cindy Bloomer Enochs. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:30 a.m., Thursday, January 22, 2015. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, January 22, 2015 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Joe Skiles officiating. Graveside services with interment will be held at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Solid Rock Family Church.
