Miriam Althea Schaub Sumpter, 95, of Jamestown, passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at her residence. She was born on March 12, 1919, the daughter of Joseph Henry and Maude May Schaub. Miriam was married to Hermon Byron Sumpter on September 2, 1943 in St. Louis. Miriam was a graduate of the Springfield School of Nursing in 1943. She nursed in Ohio, Kansas City, Mo., and Jefferson City. She retired in 1974. In her lifetime, she had many hobbies including crochet and quilting. Miriam was a very active member of the St. Pauls Evangelical in Jamestown. Miriam is survived by three sons: Phillip A. Sumpter of Jamestown, Tommy Sumpter and wife Linda of Oak Grove, and David "Zeke" Sumpter of Columbia; two daughters: Nancy C. Johnson and husband Thomas of Kansas City, Beth A. Schoeneberg and husband Albert of California; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Hermon, who passed away on February 7, 2007; her parents; and a sister Caroline Smith. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Officiating the service will be Rev. Brian Bish, assisted by Rev. Edwin Schoeneberg. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Hospice Compassus, c/o the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of BOWLIN-CANTRIEL FUNERAL SERVICES, California.
