Mary Kathleen "Katie" McCann, 87, a lifelong resident of Jefferson City, passed from this life on Thursday, December 3, 2015, at Heisinger Bluffs after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born July 2, 1928, in Jefferson City to Harold and Stella (Prenger) Schrimpf. She was united in marriage on June 19, 1948, in Jefferson City to Allen George Schnieders who preceded her in death on August 4, 1974. On September 26, 1981, in Jefferson City she was united in marriage to Raymond William McCann who survives. Katie attended Immaculate Conception and St. Peter Grade School. She was a 1946 graduate of St. Peter High School where she was a member of the homecoming court, choir, and was proud to portray the Virgin Mary in the school pageant. Katie was employed as a switchboard operator and later a receptionist at Capital City Telephone Company (later known as United Telephone Company) from 1947-1986. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Immaculata Club, and Daughters of Isabella. Her hobbies included flower gardening, bird watching, cooking and baking, sewing, and ballroom dancing. Katie is survived by her husband, Raymond McCann, Jefferson City; five children, Gary (Cyndy) Schnieders, Jefferson City; Sam (Sally) Schnieders, Jefferson City; Julie (Mark) Mercurio, Jefferson City; Sue (Gerry) Frank, Lake Villa, Ill.; Tricia (Charles) Faherty, Jefferson City; two step-children, David McCann, Miami, Fla.; Phyllis Caudle, Columbia, Mo.; 22 grandchildren, Jay Schnieders, Bill Chapman, Sally Chapman Henderson, Sarah Jones, Abby McEwan, Sammy Schnieders, Christy Caudle, Niccolas Mercurio, Joseph Mercurio, Adam Frank, Megan Lingmerth, Alison Schnieders, Brenden Frank, Benjamin Frank, Matthew Mercurio, Mark Mercurio, Nathan Mercurio, Emily Frank, Luke Mercurio, Kate Faherty, Jill Faherty, Rachael Faherty; nine great-grandchildren, Archer, Dawson, and Tucker Schnieders; Jane, Claire, and Graham Jones; Baylee Leeper; Evelyn McEwan, Mae Mercurio; and two siblings, Pat (Byron) Zalken, Jefferson City; and Bill (Ethel) Schrimpf, Kimberling City. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Allen; and a great-grandson, Jack Riley Schnieders. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Donald Antweiler officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
