Robert Joseph Veltrop

Robert Joseph Veltrop, 65, of Jefferson City passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2015, at Harry S. Truman Memorial Veteransí Hospital in Columbia. He was born on October 7, 1949, in Jefferson City, the son of Vincent and Lucille Wekonburg, both of whom preceded him in death. He was married on December 23, 1995, near Montgomery City to Patricia Cahall who survives at the home. Bob attended Jefferson City High School and later earned his GED. He was in the United States Army, serving in Vietnam. After his release from the military he worked at Ft. Leonard Wood in billeting and education. He retired early from Missouri Department of Corrections. He was a member of Roscoe Enloe Post #5 of the American Legion. He enjoyed planting and working in the garden and spending time with his family. He also loved his dogs, three Border Collies named Lucy, Kinsey and Mandy; and especially loved his constant companion Carly, a rescue dog (another Border Collie) and constant companion until her death last year at the age of 15. Besides his wife of almost 20 years, he is survived by three children, Tracie (Ed) Morgan of Prophetstown, Ill., Todd (Kelly) Veltrop of Morrison, Ill., and Angela Veltrop and fiancÈ, Dusty Purk of Jefferson City; two brothers Leon (Renee) Veltrop of Jefferson City, and Terry Veltrop of Jefferson City; grandchildren Cody and Caylee Morgan, Shelby and Camryn Veltrop, Austin, Heaven, Justin and Ethan Wells, and step-granddaughter Trinity Purk; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at Houser-Millard Funeral Chapels. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Houser-Millard Funeral Chapels. Burial with full military honors will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Make Agent Orange History or Community Living Center.
