Leander Peter Berendzen

Leander Peter Berendzen, 84, of Mary's Home, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2015, at his home. He was born February 26, 1931, the son of Andrew and Victoria (Looten) Berendzen. He was united in marriage on April 23, 1955 to Dorothy (Lueckenhoff) Berendzen, who survives at the home. Leander retired from the Carpenters Union Local 945, of which he was a 50 year member. He then worked for Asplundh Tree Service and Miller County Road and Bridge. He served in the United States Marines during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by three sons: Daniel (Theresa) Berendzen, David (Karen) Berendzen and Michael (Vonda) Berendzen, all of Mary's Home; three daughters: Barbara (Brad) Adrian, Mary's Home, Mary (Bill) Surface, Versailles, and Lisa (Bob) McDaniel, Jefferson City; grandchildren: Brian (Erin) Berendzen, Jennifer (Justin) Alexander, Amanda (Seth) Brengarth, Carrie (Ross) Ahart, Andrew (Sarah) Adrian, Joe (Kelly) Adrian, Emily (Seth) Schulte, Rodney Werdehausen, Russell Werdehausen, Bob Berendzen, Blair (Matt) Jungmeyer, Kaylee Berendzen, Matt Surface, Ryan Surface, Kim (Jesse) Carter and Chris McDaniel; great-grandchildren: Tanner and Austin Alexander, Audrey Ahart, Anna Berendzen, Danielle Brengarth, Lain Strope, Stella Adrian, Jesse Carter Jr., and two more expected this winter; two sisters, Irene Lepper, Kansas City and Margaret Ann (Fred) Evers, Mary's Home and brother-in-law Lawrence Clarkston, Jefferson City; numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Doris Berendzen; two sisters, Frances Rademann and Helen Marie Clarkston; and two brothers-in-law, Norbert Lepper and Edwin Rademann. Visitation will be Monday, August 24, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Mary's Home with a Prayer Service at 3:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church with Rev. Patrick J. Shortt officiating. Interment will follow at Our Lady of the Snows Cemetery in Mary's Home with full military honors provided by the Eldon VFW Post #2442 of Eldon, Mo. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association, Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church, or Hospice Compassus. Arrangements are under the direction of Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon, Mo.
