Mr. Donald Dean Smith, age 88 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away on Monday, August 10, 2015, at Heisinger Bluffs. He was born on August 2, 1927, in Iowa the son of Alva and Hazel Nutter Smith. He was married on October 16, 1949, in Tebbetts, Mo. to Virginia Mae Baurichter, who preceded him in death on September 22, 2009. A lifelong resident of the Central Missouri area, Donald was a graduate of Mokane High School. He was a lifelong grain and livestock farmer in the Missouri river bottom and took great pride in his work. Donald also bred and raised Polled Hereford cattle as generations of his family did before him. He was on the Holts Summit School Board when it merged with Jefferson City. Donald was an active member in the Cedar City Lions Club, 4-H Club and numerous Callaway County and Missouri state livestock and farming associations. He grew up in and was a member of the Tebbetts United Methodist Church and became a member of the Cyprus Lake United Methodist Church while he lived in Fort Meyers, Fla. Donald liked to cook and loved to be surrounded by wonderful friends and family enjoying a great meal. Survivors include: one daughter, Donna Smith Becker (Ken) of Chicago, Ill.; one son, David Smith (Ginger) of Holts Summit, Mo.; two brothers, Harold Smith (Eileen) of Jefferson City, Mo. and Jerry Smith (Sue) of Happy Jack, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Sarah Dubbert (Joe) of Columbia, Mo., Justin Smith (Kerry) of Columbia, Mo. and Aaron Becker (James) of Chicago, Ill.; five great-grandchildren, Aidan Dubbert, Wyatt Smith, Ethan Dubbert, Rigg Smith and Ranger Smith; nine nephews; and numerous sisters and brothers-in-law and their families including Anne Meyer and Mark Trachsel. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia; and his nephew, Gary Smith. A private family memorial service will be held. Visitation will be held at Heisinger Bluffs, 1002 West Main St. Jefferson City, Mo. 65109, in the Independent Living Dining Room from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2015. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Tebbetts United Methodist Church C/O Freeman Mortuary.
