Mildred L. Matthews

Mildred L. Matthews, age 92, of Mint Hill, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2015, at Linn Living and Rehab Center in Linn. Mildred was born on March 4, 1923, in Fredonia, Ky., a daughter to the late Asel Bronson and Mary Edna (Vinson) Hodge. Mildred attended Secretarial School. On November 5, 1943, she was united in marriage to Merle D. Matthews in Valparaiso, Ind. He preceded her in death on September 2, 2008. Mildred enjoyed shopping, playing bingo, interior decorating, and spending time with her family. Mildred is survived by: two sons, William "Bill" R. Matthews of Chamois and Terry D. Matthews of Chamois; one brother, Bruce Hodge and his wife Lu of Hobart, Ind.; a care giver and longtime friend, Tricia Mantle of Linn; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and spouse of 65 years, she was preceded in death by: a son, Merle Robert Matthews; nine brothers, one sister, and a daughter-in-law, Paula Matthews Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 3, 2015, at Morton Chapel in Linn. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at Morton Chapel in Linn. Interment will follow in the Mint Hill Shirley Cemetery.
