Alvin Daniel Maurer, age 93 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2015, at his home. He was born on November 13, 1921, in Jefferson City, Mo., the son of D.C. and Helena Mueller Maurer. He was married on June 3, 1951, in Jefferson City, Mo., to Lois Boyles, who preceded him in death on February 24, 2012. A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Al was a 1939 graduate of Jefferson City High School and graduated from Jefferson City Junior College in 1941. He served as a private in the United States Army during World War II. After his service to our country, Al began his professional career as a salesman at Remington Rand Typewriter Services. In the early 1960s, he started Maurer Office Machine Service that he owned and operated for over 30 years. At that same time, he also ran Moreau View Boarding Kennel because of his love of dogs. Al was a member and Boy Scout Leader of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson City. He served as an Electricity Leader with the Moreau Bend 4-H Club when his children were young. Al was an avid outdoorsman, especially duck hunting on the Osage River and fishing in the nearby Moreau River. With his love of animals, Al cared for Purple Martins since he was 13 years old. Survivors include: his son, C.L. and Mary Maurer of Lawrence, Kan.; his daughter, Janet Maurer of Jefferson City, Mo.; four grandchildren, Kyle and Kelly Case of Eudora, Kan.; Katie and Nathan McAleese of Lawrence, Kan.; Mark and Katie Case of Kansas City, Mo. and Corey Nevins of Jefferson City, Mo.; seven great-grandchildren, Justice McAleese, Hailin McAleese, Landon McAleese, Tyler Case, Alexandria Case, Megan Nevins and Silas Nevins; one brother-in-law, Elwyn "Al" Boyles of Rock Island, Ill.; one cousin, Marge Williams of Clarence, Mo.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Al's family thanks all of his caregivers and thinks of them as extended family for all the care and love they showed him these past few years. They will always remember the efforts of Donna, Paula, Brenda, DeAnn, Gerard, Teresa, SSM Hospice, and his favorite pup, Mopsey. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois; one sister, Dorothy Shepard; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Boyles; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Dorothy Bower. A visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., Monday, April 27, 2015. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m.. Monday, April 27, 2015 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Samuel Powell officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be held at Riverview Cemetery in Jefferson City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church, SSM Hospice or Calvary Lutheran High School.
